The Grief of 9/11
By Larry M Barber, LPC-S, CT
As the images of September 11th are played over and over again in the news, our nation regrieves the loss of thousands of innocent souls in that tragic day in history. Remember during this time of honoring those lost on 9/11 that mourners, new to grief and still struggling with their own losses, are inundated with those pictures of horrific loss and memories of unbearable, painful grief - both personal and shared.
If you're new to grief and the pictures in the news are overwhelming, know your limitations. Turn the TV and radio off. Spend special time in remembering your loved one in meaningful ways.
If you know a person new to grief, call them up this week and remind them that they are not alone, that you're there for them and you are wishing them the best.
